The super Parent Hero program, funded by Conexión Américas, was created in 2018 to help empower parents of color with knowledge to better advocate for equality in their children's education. The SP Hero Program focuses on advocating in three areas: requesting accessible, clear, transparent and disaggregated data, requesting that parents are included from the beginning in any school disciplinary process and ensuring access to college information and support for economically disadvantaged students. As no such program previously existed in Hamblen County, HOLA was eager to help its community take this step toward equality for all students. From providing ELL classes to parents who need to learn English to providing relevant and informative presentations on important school policies and community issues and everything in between, HOLA is striving to create parent advocates who can fight for their children's rights to a quality education.
